Happy New Year!

I hope everybody had a very happy Christmas and New Year!  Hard to believe that this wonderful season is all over and it is back to to normal again!

A reminder to Chorus that our first rehearsal is this Tuesday, January 5th at 7:30.  We will miss Brigid for the next 2 weeks as she takes a well deserved holiday in the UK but look forward to Morna Edmundson taking these 2 rehearsals.

This will be a Rossini spring which means some more beautiful music.  Roger has again put together midi files for rehearsing and these should be up in the music section very shortly.

Sad News

I am very sad to have to let you know that Audrey Fricker, a long time ROCA member died in Vernon yesterday. Although she hasn't been with us for a few years, those of you who have been with the chorus for many years will remember Audrey and her wonderful voice, cheerful smiles, and kind words for all.  Please keep her children and grandchildren in your thoughts.

Information on a service for Audrey will come in the New Year.

Christmas Party Information

Hope to see everybody at the party Tuesday night, about 7:00.  For information about where, when and what to bring please click HERE.

Once you get to Edgewater here is how you find the recreation centre and info about parking..

Edgewater Recreation Building

The Rec Centre is in the middle of the Edgewater Park Townhouse Development. Directions are as follows. Come West on Williams Rd. until you can’t go any further and the last driveway on the right-hand side is actually the roadway for the development. Proceed along the roadway (being mindful of our large speed bumps) about two long city blocks worth and the Rec Centre is on your right, there is a pool right beside it as well. There is some parking in front of the Rec Centre, and more parking a little further north on the right-hand side as well. If you are unable to find any parking you can also park on Williams and walk in.  The Rec Centre is fully equipped with a stove with an oven, microwave and fridge. Looking forward to seeing you all there, don’t forget your red folders, santa hats and a flashlight for carol singing. J

Thank You From Brigid

THANK YOU!

It’s 9:45pm on Sunday evening (it’s been a long day!), and I finally have the chance to sit down and write you all a note to thank you for a REALLY good concert on Saturday!  With the exception of a couple of lapses in concert decorum (!) you came over as polished and poised, with good blend and (mostly) good communication.  The best things, musically, were “What Child is This” and “Jul, Jul”, but you bounced your way through “Three in White” with smiles, and “Hope for Resolution” made a great first half ender.  As Cathy said, there were lots of positive audience reactions, and many people saying “the best one yet!”

Thank you, as always, to Tom – calm and musical at the keys – and special thanks to Bill Brooks who came in at the last moment to play “marimba”.

For the lunchtime singout at St Paul’s on Saturday (the evening one is OFF) you’ll need your red folders, but bring “Jul” and “Night of Silence” – and probably to Courtyard Gardens for Tuesday week as well. I’ll get program lists out for both performances.  And this is just a reminder, that if you’re doing Courtyard Gardens, you should either have had your flu shot, or, even though fit and healthy, not interact with the residents (though I don’t really want you singing with a mask on!)

Hoping to see most of you on Tuesday at the party!

What a Wonderful Concert!

A big thank you to James, Brigid, Tom, Larisa, and all the members of the orchestra and chorus for a terrific concert last night.  So many people stopped on their way out the door to say how much they had enjoyed the concert and that it had really put them into the holiday spirit.  And wasn't it wonderful to perform for such a large audience!

So many thanks to all of you who sold tickets.  Once all the dust settles we will make sure to give out the 2  $50 bills in January to the highest seller and winner of the draw.

Hoping to see lots of you at the party on Tuesday.  Orchestra members, please do drop by after your concert.  We'll still be there!  (more info to come)

All the best for a very merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Rehearsal Order For Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Fraserview

Reminder to everyone that rehearsal is at FRASERVIEW this evening.  We’ve a lot to do, and I would ask your concentration, and minimal chat – I know it’s tempting to talk when you’re not singing, but if instructions are being given to Richmond Singers or to the Orchestra, discussions in the Chorus are not helpful!

Rehearsal will be in the following order (because of instrumentation).  It would probably help to re-organise your music…

1.       Three In White – Chorus, flute, perc

2.       Jul, Jul – Chorus, string quartet

3.       Night of Silence – Chorus, Singers, strings

4.       Hallelujah Chorus – add trumpets

5.       What Child is This? – add winds

6.       (possibly) Sing We Now of Christmas – Singers & Orchestra

7.       Hope for Resolution

8.       Jessye's Carol

9.       Jesu Joy (Jesus bleibet)

10.   Hark the Herald / Come all ye Faithful

11.   Nutcracker, Christmas Festival, Sleigh Ride – Chorus & Singers can leave early

You don’t need your red folders at all – but don’t forget to take “Jul” and “Night of Silence” out of them, if you had them in from Saturday.

Thanks to the folks who did City Hall – I know our “audience” was small, but we were heard upstairs, and they enjoyed the carol-singing.  I felt it was good for us to have a sequential carol-sing like that, and to know that we have those secure.

Let’s plan to start on the dot of 7:30pm this evening!

Brigid

Sell those tickets! Win $50!

Our Christmas concert is fast approaching and we want lots of people to hear our great music!

Remember -  $50 to the person selling the most tickets and a $50 for everybody selling 2 or more tickets.

If your friends or family are buying on-line please ask them to let you know and then make sure Paul knows so he can add your name to the draw.
