ROCA's 'The Spirit of Christmas' Concert Raises Over $2,000 for the Richmond Food Bank

The music played, the audience sang, and the spirit of giving flowed through the evening as the Richmond Orchestra and Chorus Association presented its third annual concert in support of the Richmond Food Bank. On December 11th over $2,198.85 was raised at the door.  The musicians donated their time and South Arm United Church donated the venue, and so 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Richmond Food Bank.

The mission of the Richmond Food Bank is “to be a caring organization that provides food assistance, advocacy and related support for community members in need.”  Started in 1983 by the congregations of St. Alban Anglican and Richmond Presbyterian Churches, the Richmond Food Bank now serves over 2200 people every week. The food bank receives no government assistance and relies solely on the community donating money, food and volunteering time in order to fulfill its mandate.

This year the Richmond Food Bank joined the Community Food Centres Canada’s Good Food Organization program.  This program offers the food bank tools and resources to further aid the food bank in its endeavours in education and advocacy initiatives that impact poverty and food security.

Every dollar raised and can of food donated goes to  help our neighbours in need in so many different ways. Our community is truly enriched by the work of the Richmond Food Bank at this special time and throughout the rest of the year.  Thank you to everybody who attended this year’s concert and gave so generously.
