Season 34 is another year of great music, from Mozart to the Beatles, a trip around the Pacific Rim, and many favourite features. Subscribe now!
In 1791, Mozart’s extraordinary life was cut tragically short. The choir and orchestra will present several of the unparalleled masterworks from this final year, including the Clarinet Concerto featuring Stephen Robb as soloist, and Mozart’s very last (and unfinished) opus, his poignant and solemn Requiem Mass.
An evening with the choir and orchestra performing Christmas favourites from across the centuries. Whether it’s the baroque magnificence and tenderness of Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit, visions of sugar plum fairies courtesy of Tchaikovsky, nostalgic songs from the Golden Age of Hollywood, or other seasonal classics, there will be something to bring you cheer!
Libby Yu will perform Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a set of virtuosic variations by turns crackling with energy, dancing to triumph, or fading into a ghost world, and which features one of the most famous soaring romantic melodies ever written. The orchestra will also play Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, in honour of his 250th birthday, a masterwork of incredible intensity spun from a single four note motif.
